A University Don, Professor Makanjuola Oluyomi Oruwari has called for the co-operation of the private sector and government agencies in order to solve the housing problem of the low-income households in the country.

The University Don who observed that since the collapse of the Federal Housing Scheme, there had never been an effective housing scheme geared towards the low-income households, stressed the need for the legislation of policies that support the poor and assist them to their full potentials.
Professor Oluyomi Oruwari who is also the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences in the University called on government to pay attention on the private rental sector when considering intervention policies in rental housing in order to have maximum impact as according to her the bulk of supply of housing units in the rental sector in the urban areas is in the hands of private landlords.
Describing the housing of the urban poor as a global problem, Professor Oluyomi Oruwar however called an the Federal, States, Corporate bodies and well meaning individual in society to assist researchers in the provision of funds to enable them carryout their research effectively.
Earlier, the Vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Simeon Chituru Achinewhu had described the topic of the lecture as apt as the issue of housing affects many in the society.
The Vice-Chancellor lauded Professor Oluyomi Oruwar for her brilliant presentation and for being the first to present the inaugural lecture in the faculty since the inception of the faculty, urging other professors yet to present to brace up to their challenges so as to prove their professorial status.
