AN ACCEPTANCE ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT, COMRADE ANTHONY KPEGELE, STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT, RSUST, ON THE OCCASION OF THE SWEARING IN CEREMONY OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

ON THE 13TH OF FEBRUARY, 2006

Protocol

It is with joy and humility that I present this address which is my first address presented as President, Students’ Union Government of this great institution.

My thanks go first, to God Almighty, for granting my heart desire as President of the Students’ Apex body. May I also appreciate the University Management for approving and conducting free and fair elections. Not forgetting all students who believed in my visions and have given me the mandate. I will always be grateful for your ceaseless efforts.

As the head of the executive council, I have accepted the responsibilities attached to the headship of the Students Union Government. I promise to discharge my duties in consonance with the provisions of the supreme constitution of the Students’ Union Government. May I assure the Management that I will work with my Executive, the Parliament and Judiciary as a team. However, the rule of Separation of Powers will be duly upheld in our administration.

Being the head of the executive council and the government is not and easy task. Notwithstanding, my administration shall incorporate sound students, worthy in character and in learning, as members of various units under the Presidency. The units are: Media Unit, Prayer Unit, Counseling Unit and Environmental Unit.

One of my visions for this University is to ensure that the battered image is redeemed. This will be achieved through a TV Programme – UST HALF HOUR.

The Counseling Unit will handle all students’ academic and psychological problems. Some lecturers will oversee this unit.

The Prayer Unit will be saddled with the responsibility of Praying for the success of the government on a daily basis. While the Environmental Unit will ensure that the University is kept clean.

May I state categorically, that the Units mentioned above, shall not interfere with either Parliaments’ Committees or my fellow executive members.

Once again I want to thank the management and promise on behalf of the government that we shall work hand in glove with all stakeholders to ensure maximum welfare for all students.

Thank you and God Bless.

Long live the Students Union Government

Long live RSUST

And long live Rivers State.
