The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 9th Governing Council of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Prof. Godwin Tasie has promised to work towards the full accreditation of all programmes of the University, particularly those recently de-accredited by the National Universities Commission. Prof. Tasie gave this assurance as members of his Council went on an inspection tour of the University.
Prof. Godwin Tasie formerly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos and the Chairman of the first Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Oyo State was recently appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 9th Governing Council of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt by the Executive Governor of Rivers State Sir Dr. Peter Odili following the desolution of the 8th Governing Council of the University.
In order to actualize this promise, Prof. Tasie has directed the Management of the University to submit the requirements for full accreditation of the affected promgrammes to the Governing Council within four weeks.
To ensure sanity and high academic standard in the institution, Prof. Tasie warned against late release of examination result by Department emphasizing that it was no longer business as usual and reminded them that success in every system is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders. He added that the 9th Governing Council headed by him was ready to work in collaboration with the Management, staff and students of the University in order to improve the University.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Chituru Achinewhu briefed the Pro-Chancellor and members of Council on the problems and progress so far recorded in the University. Prof Achinewhu expressed gratitude 6to the Governor and Visitor to the University, Sir Dr Peter Odili for the caliber of persons appointed to serve on the 9th Governing Council and promised that Management, staff and students of the University will work with the new Council to ensure its enhanced progress.
Prof. Tasie who was accompanied by all members of Council visited the Sick-Bay, Students Hostels, the Post Graduate School, the Central Library and the Faculty of Law. They were received on arrival by Deans, Heads of Departments and students.
