PRESENTATION OF BOOKS TO THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT BY THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS (NSE) PORT HARCOURT BRANCH, 25 MARCH, 2006

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor S C Achinewhu, has commended the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) Rivers State branch for their donation of books to the University.

Professor Achinewhu made this commendation while receiving over 1300 volumes of hard copy text books and hundreds of compact disk books donated to the University by the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Professor Achinewhu who was represented at the occasion by Professor Tonye Johnnary, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, of the University thanked Engineer Massari who single-handedly settled the freight bill for the books and described him as a great philanthropist who has contributed immensely to the development of the University. Professor Achinewhu promised that the university would preserve and socure the books for the service of humanity by ensuring that the students and staff of the University utilized the books maximally. He observed that the books so donated would serve all the Faculties of the University as it covers areas in Science, Humanities, Religion, Agriculture, Engineering, Management Sciences, Education and Computer Science.

Earlier in his address, Engr. Massari who made the donation on behalf of the Nigerian Society of Engineers disclosed that the books donated were carefully selected to meet the needs of the University and stressed that knowledge has to be acquired through regular updating of new ideas and skill. He therefore charged students to make maximum use of the books in order to acquire more knowledge. He also promised to donate more in order to assist the University.

The highlights of the occasion, was the presentation of a souvenir to Engr. Massari by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor S C Achinewhu, on behalf of the University community.

Staff and students of the University witnessed the formal presentation of the books.
