The Staff school was opened on the 16 th November 1981 with Mrs. Elizabeth Cookey as the pioneers headmistress. She was succeeded by Mrs. Eugenia Alpheus Kalio after retirement. The current headmistress Mrs. Joy Chimezie Dikio Brigg assumed duty on the 10 th January 2005 when Mrs. Kalio retired.

The school was established primarily to cater for the children of the university staff. However, a small percentage of non staff children is admitted to extend goodwill to the public.
