The primary objective of Petroleum of Engineering is the evaluation and recovery of oil, gas and other fluids in the earth. Lots of ingenious skills are needed to meet the ever growing demands of hydrocarbon fuel and raw materials for the petrochemical industry in the national economy. The programmes offered in the department are designed to impart relevant knowledge to students in the oil-field operations and their development.

The first two years which are common to all Departments in the Faculty of Engineering are devoted to the study of the basic elements of Engineering Science, in which the students are prepared for studies in any branch of Engineering. In the remaining three years, all the essential elements of petroleum engineering Science and practice are considered.

Emphasis is placed on drilling techniques, subsurface evaluation, oil and gas production methods, hydrocarbon fluid properties, underground fluid behaviour, economics and the management of operations,with the application of mathematics and geochemistry to various phases of drilling, production and fluid flow.
