The Faculty of Science Comprises of 5 Departments as per follows:

With the establishment of the University in 1980, the Faculty of Science was created out of the school of science of the defunct college of Science and Technology into four full Departments, namely: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics and an adjunct Department of Medical Laboratory Science. The five existing departments prepared students for the award of Bachelor of science degrees in specific disciplines. To solve the problem of dearth of qualified students for admission into the Departments of Physics and Mathematics, a remedial program was established. Furthermore, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) is currently offered in the departments of Biological Science and Physics. Plans are under to start the Doctor of philosophy programme in other departments of the Faculty.

(iv) Marine Biology
2) Department of Chemistry (Ph. D, M.Phil or M.Sc. with Research).
(i) Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry including environmental/Pollution Chemistry, Soil and Food Chemistry, thermo chemistry of solution; processing utilization of various minerals
(ii) Organic Chemistry including Biochemistry, Organic Synthesis; Chemistry of natural products and medicinal herbs; crude oil, petrochemicals.
(iii) Physical Chemistry including Polymer products development; electrochemistry; thermodynamics of fluid mixtures
3) Department of Physics (ph. D, M. Phil or M.Sc. with Research).
(i) Nuclear and Radiation Physics
(ii) Solid State Physics
(iii) Theoretical physics
Experimental Physics
(iv) Geophysics (Applied Geophysics)
